New Delhi: Samsung Galaxy J7, J5 (2016) editions have been launched and both the smartphones are available exclusively on Flipkart.

Successor to last year’s Galaxy J5, the latest model comes with a larger display and upgraded hardware. Also, Samsung continued the mid-range pricing that we saw in the previous J-series. The Galaxy J5 starts at Rs 13,990, while the bigger Galaxy J7 comes at Rs 15,990 price-tag.

Samsung’s J series is the largest selling smartphone in India. Furthermore, a recent IDC report said that the J brand has helped the company win over the budget-conscious smartphone users in the market.

In India, the J7 comes with 2GB RAM and an HD display, not the full HD display and 3GB RAM we’ve seen in China or South Korea version. Both smartphones also run the latest Android Marshmallow OS, which is not so common in this price-band.

So it we look at the competition like for the Samsung J7, J5 (2016) series in India, it is definitely Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3.

The Redmi Note 3 is available exclusively via Flipkart and the 32GB is priced 11,999 and available on Mi.com as well as on Amazon India.

It we consider comparing the specs, the Galaxy J5 and J7 appear to be more expensive compared to the Redmi Note 3. However, specs alone don’t account for performance and also Samsung has added some features for its J series which let the phone stand out.

In terms of the competition, the Redmi Note 3 is a worthy challenger for the 2016 J series. But the South-Korean tech giant is the bigger and more well-known brand compared to the other players in India, which might appeal to some users.

Here is a chart which will give a clear view about both the smartphones.
