New Delhi: E-commerce giants Paytm and Snapdeal seem to be heading towards a legal battle with the former accusing a Snapdeal company of ‘stealing data’. In a lawsuit filed by Paytm, the company has alleged that Unicommerce, an e-commerce management software and fulfilment solutions provider owned by Snapdeal, is accessing confidential business data on its website through sellers.

Paytm, which started off as an online marketplace, has also claimed that Unicommerce is using its logo without authorization. Many sellers on Paytm platform use Unicommerce for managing orders and inventory.

Snapdeal had acquired Unicommerce last year. The matter is expected to come up for hearing in the Delhi High Court on Thursday.

This is not the first time that e-commerce giants have dragged each other to court. A few days ago, cab service provider Uber took rival Ola to court claiming that the latter was involved in false bookings and creating fake accounts.

Legal experts feel data is very crucial in the Internet space. If rivals gets hold of company specific data, the company’s business has  a huge negative impact.

Paytm and Snapdeal, are two of the most sought after e-commerce companies in India. Paytm is backed by Chinese giant Alibaba while Delhi-based Snapdeal is growing by the day. Snapdeal started as a marketplace and later went on to acquire companies like Freecharge to get involved in digital payment platform.
