Leaks and rumours have been aplenty ever since OnePlus confirmed its launch this summer will be called the OnePlus 5.  In a blog post earlier CEO Pete Lau had said that the phone will come with some big surprises and going by the leaks, it sure looks impressive and has generated enormous interest.

If you were wondering how you missed the buzz around ‘OnePlus 4’, don’t be surprised as the Chinese smartphone maker has skipped the number ‘4’ from the flagship. Its last release was the OnePlus 3T. Interestingly, the number ‘four’ is believed to be considered unlucky in China, which is why OnePlus decided to go with OnePlus 5 instead of ‘four’. The smartphone maker, reports said, did not want anything to jinx its next flagship phone given the successful run the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T have had.

With the previous launches having impressed many in India with its features and performances at its price point, there is a lot of speculation and anticipation around what OnePlus will bring to the table with its latest flagship. We took a look at the leaks and speculation around the launch and here is what we believe you should expect from the OnePlus 5.

Design

Don’t expect too many changes on the design front in the OnePlus 5, with ample suggestions that the all-metal unibody design of OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will continue. There are, however, indications that the top antenna lines could be more muted on the rear cover this time.

While the OnePlus 5 is expected to sport a dual-camera set up on the back, there is no confirmation on whether this will be stacked vertically or horizontally. While one image shows a vertically stacked rear camera, other reports claim this won’t be the case.

There is no clarity yet on whether the OnePlus 5 will junk the 3.5 mm headphone jack and add water and dust resistance.

Specifications

Leaks suggest that the OnePlus 5 will sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. OnePlus has in the past put the latest high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC in its phones, and it is unlikely they won’t follow the trend with the OnePlus 5.

The biggest surprise could come on the RAM front, with rumours claiming the OnePlus 5 will have an 8GB RAM variant as well. There are other reports too that say OnePlus will stick with its 6GB RAM of the previous flagships, though there could be an 8GB RAM+256GB storage version as well.

Dual camera setup

Going by the leaks, the OnePlus 5 will sport a dual-rear camera. Whether it has a set up like the iPhone 7 Plus with a wide-angle and a telephoto lens or instead goes for a monochrome and RGB lens, is something we’ll have to wait and see. Kumamoto Technology on Weibo has claimed the two rear cameras will placed horizontally. Some leaks also claim a 23 MP rear camera.

Battery

In terms of power, the OnePlus 5 is expected to sport 3600 mAh battery, bigger that the 3400 mAh one on the OnePlus 3T. OnePlus 5 will also come with DashCharge 2.0 support, OnePlus’ proprietary technology which allows for superfast charging.

Price, Launch

Given its previous record -- OnePlus 2 was launched in July 2015, OnePlus 3 in June 2016 -- and given the confirmation that the OnePlus 5 is coming this summer, one should expect a June-July timeline for the OnePlus 5 launch.

In terms of price, it is unlikely that the Chinese company will spring as a surprise; given its tendency to target the mid-premium range.  The OnePlus 3 launched at Rs 27,999 in India for the 64GB version, and Rs 29,999 for the OnePlus 3T with 64 GB storage. The pricing for the OnePlus 5 should therefore stay in the Rs 30,000-Rs 35,000 range in India.
