New Delhi: In a development that marks Pinterest’s entry into the e-commerce segment, the online bulletin board has unveiled new features that will now facilitate online shopping.
The new features announced at the company’s San Francisco headquarters include a virtual shopping bag that will let users fill and shop as they go through bulletin boards. This feature is similar to a shopping cart. You can also use the visual search icon on top of a pin and find similar products.
“When you’re ready to check out, everything you’ve added to your bag will be right there waiting for you,” Tim Weingarten, Pinterest product manager, said in a blog post.
The virtual shopping bag feature is currently available on Android devices and the official Pinterest website. The feature will also be available on Apple and tablets soon.
Pinterest is also working on a feature that will allow people to search for items by clicking photos of things that catch their interest.
"Soon you'll be able to snap a photo of an object in the real world and get related recommendations on Pinterest," Weingarten added in the blog.
Pinterest was founded in 2010 and boasts more than 100 million users, with about 45 percent of them outside the United States.
