New Delhi: Millions of Facebook users around the world will soon be able to connect more people by sharing their posts and comments in various languages.
The social network giant has announced that its developers have built a multilingual composer and the feature has already began to be tested.
The tool will let users compose a single post that will appear in multiple languages and other users will see that post in their preferred language. The feature is only available for desktops now, but others can view the multilingual posts across all platforms.
Facebook wrote in its blog post wrote, “People use Facebook to share information and ideas in many different languages.” It added, “In fact, 50 per cent of our community speaks a language other than English and most people don’t speak each other’s languages, so we’re always thinking about ways we can help remove language as a barrier to connecting on Facebook.”
Currently the feature is being tested only among a small group of users. The social network said the feature is already being used by 5,000 Facebook Pages which are specifically for businesses and brands, but it will soon open for testing to the broader social network.
The software will make your published posts visible to people in their preferred languages. You just need to type a post, click on a pull-down menu, and add up to 45 different language translations – which can be from French to Filipino to Lithuanian reported tech website CNET.
Steps to enable the multi-language settings in your FB account:
- First log in to your account and go to account settings.
- Click on the Multilingual option
- Enable the option
- Next you need to edit the language to include readability option in many languages.
