HMD Global, which now owns the Nokia brand, today launched three new smartphones in India today. Marking a return of the Nokia brand to India, the launch event saw the release of the Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and the Nokia 3 – the three smartphones that the company launched in the EU market. The smartphones mark the first batch of launches by Nokia since Lumia under Microsoft. The launch event in the national capital today HMD Global announce the launch dates, availability and prices of the three smartphones in India. Nokia has dropped its earlier mobile OS and the new smartphones now run Android.
HMD Global has already unveiled the devices at the Mobile World Congress earlier this year. It had also mentioned that it will be announcing a new series of smartphones in the second quarter of 2017, triggering speculation of Nokia's return to India.
“Let’s join hands and welcome a new era of Nokia smartphones,” the invite to the launch event read.
Nokia 6, Nokia 5, Nokia 3 run pure stock Android 7 Nougat
All three smartphones -- Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 -- run pure stock Android 7 Nougat. HMD Global has already promised an Android O update for these phones, which could be another plus point.

Price and release date: While Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 are both offline-exclusive products, and will be available via over 80,000 retail stores that stock the company's handsets, the Nokia 6 is Amazon-exclusive and buyers can register for sale starting July 14 on the e-commerce platform. Nokia smartphones have been competitively priced, pitting them against popular Chinese smartphones like Redmi Note 4 and Xiaomi Redmi Note. The Nokia 3 has been is Rs. 9,499 and it will go on sale starting June 16, while the price in India of Nokia 5 is Rs. 12,899, and pre-bookings for the handset will begin on July 7. On the other hand, Nokia 6 price in India is Rs.14,999.
Operating System: The Nokia 5 smartphone will run the Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, while the Nokia 6 and Nokia 3 devices will run the Android Nougat 7.0.
Display: Nokia 6 has a 5.5-inch IPS LCD full HD display with 1920 x 1080 resolution and a 16:9 ratio. It has a 2.5D sculpted Corning Gorilla Glass display on top, and 403 ppi with over 450 nits brightness. Nokia 5 has a 5.2-inch IPS HD display and has a Corning Gorilla Glass laminated on top of the screen. Nokia 3 has a smaller 5-inch display and a Corning Gorilla Glass laminated IPS LCD display with HD resolution (1280 x 720).
Camera: Nokia 6 has a rear camera of 16MP with 1 um Pixel size and f/2 aperture, dual tone flash; the front camera is 8MP AF with 1.12 um pixel size and f/2 along with 84 degrees. Nokia 5 has a 13MP rear camera with 1.12um, f/2 aperture, dual tone flash, and there’s an 8MP front shooter with AF, 1.12um and f/2 aperture. Nokia 3, meanwhile, has an 8MP rear camera with 1.12um, f/2 aperture, LED flash, and an 8MP front camera with 1.12um, f/2 aperture and display flash.
Processor: Both Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 run the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor, while the Nokia 5 comes with the Adreno 505 graphics. Meanwhile, Nokia 3 has the MediaTek 6737, which is quad-core processor clocked at 1.3Ghz.
Storage: Nokia 6 comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. However, the limited edition Arte Black gets 4GB RAM+ 64 GB storage. The microSD slot support is up to 128GB. Nokia 5 comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage expandable to 128GB. Nokia 3 features 2GB RAM with 16GB storage, expandable up to 128GB.
