Investigators believe that the declaration of Rs 2 lakh crore under the Income Disclosure Scheme by a Bandra family may be a result of their PAN details of family members being misused.

Abdul Razzaque Mohammed Sayed, Mohammed Aarif Abdul Razzaque Sayed, Rukhsana Abdul Razzaque Sayed and Noorjahan Mohammed Sayed claim to be residents of Jubilee Court, Bandra (West). However, three of the four PAN numbers were registered in Ajmer, which were migrated to Mumbai in September 2016, when the declarations were filed.

The income-tax department has rejected the family’s declaration of Rs 2 lakh crore and investigations in the matter are on, the Union Finance ministry said. The ministry said the declaration was rejected as it was “suspicious in nature, being filed by persons of small means”.

Notedly, there have been various reports regarding the misuse of Pan Card under IDS recently. People in cities across the country were coming forward to say that their PAN card and other details had been misused to make declarations under the IDS in their names, TOI quoted its source as saying.

IT department are closely examining the likelihood of the family's details having been been misused by someone, though there has been no official word on it.

However, there was no clarity on Tuesday on whether the I-T department had managed to trace the family, which has not been found at the address submitted in the declaration.

According to a press note issued by the Public Information Bureau (PIB), a family of four — Abdul Razzaque Mohammed Sayed, his son Mohammed Aarif Abdul Razzaque Sayed, wife Rukhsana Abdul Razzaque Sayed and sister Noorjahan Mohammed Sayed — were listed as residents of Flat no. 4, Ground Floor, Jubilee Court, 269-B, T.P.S-III, Linking Road, Bandra (W), Mumbai. The note said the family had filed a total declaration of Rs 2 lakh crore (Rs 2,00,000 crore).

Under the IDS, the person making the declaration had to fill a form offline or online after providing his/her name, address, PAN number, contact number and valuables he/she may want to declare. The applicant was supposed to submit the digitally signed form online. He/she also had the option of signing a physical copy of the form and submitting it to IT officials.
