New Delhi: Leading milk supplier Mother Dairy today said it has ventured into cow milk segment and aims to achieve a volume of 5 lakh litres per day in the next one year.
A subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Mother Dairy alone has a supply up to 30 litres a day in the national capital region. It sells another 5 lakh litres per day in other cities.
"We have launched cow milk in the national capital region at Rs 40 per litre. We are currently selling 60,000 litres per day," said Sandeep Ghosh, Mother Dairy Business Head – Milk.
"We are procuring cow milk from Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan," he added.
The company further plans to launch cow milk in other markets of north India as well as Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad and reach a volume of 1.25-1.5 lakh litres per day.
"In the next one year, we are targeting to achieve sales volume of 5 lakh litres per day in cow milk," he said, adding the overall sales volume would touch 40 lakh litres per day.
"Our milk business is growing by an average 6-7 per cent, although last year growth was less due to surplus milk in the country," Ghosh said.
Mother Dairy had posted a turnover of Rs 7,186 crore during last fiscal, out of which about 75 per cent was from dairy segment.
Besides milk, it also sells edible oil and processed foods as well as fresh/frozen fruits and vegetables.
