New Delhi: Close on the heels of Apple chief Tim Cook’s visit to India, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will be in India today. This will be his third visit to the country in just seven months.

Hyderabad-born Nadella is schedule to address students, developers and entrepreneurs on ‘how technology is fostering a culture of innovation to solve real-world problems and driving India's transformation’.

Microsoft chief will also attend a session with some 100-150 top executives of corporate India, which will be organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Nadella will also address a press conference in New Delhi.

Nadella took over Steve Ballmer to become the CEO of Microsoft on 4 February 2014. Before this new role, he was Executive Vice President of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group, responsible for building and running the company’s Computing Platforms, Developer Tools and Cloud Computing Services.

Nadella made his first visit to India (after becoming CEO) in November 2015 on the occasion of the software giant celebrating 25 years in the country. It was around the same time that Microsoft opened three data centres in India, making it the first ever global provider to offer its Azure cloud services from local data centres in India.

Nadella's second trip to the country was in December 2015 for his annual vacation, which was largely a personal visit. At that time, he had said that Microsoft's goal and dream is to empower local entrepreneurs to solve last-mile connectivity. The 48-year-old is Hyderabad-born and has family there.

During his last visit, Nadella had met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and visited the campus of startup incubator T-hub and Microsoft development centre in Hyderabad.

These visits and increasing engagements by global leaders highlight India’s rise as a huge technology consumer and not just as an outsourcing destination.
