The Union cabinet today approved an ordinance to raise cess on luxury cars and Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) from 15% to 25%, according to media reports.
After the cabinet’s nod, the government will reportedly have the authority to raise cess to 25% on vehicles with a capacity to carry up to 15 passengers.
The new cess will be in addition to the taxes that apply on the sale of luxury vehicles.
