Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani today announced that Jio will continue to offer free voice calls after March 31 this year, when its introductory free offer comes to an end.

Addressing an event here, Ambani said that since Jio’s commercial launch in September last year, the venture has successfully managed to grow its customer base to 100 million (10 crore).

“Reliance Jio has crossed 100 million customers mark in just 170 days. Seven customers added every single second since launch,” he said amid a huge round of applause.

Ambani reiterated that the company will not charge any roaming fee for Jio users from April 1 when the promotional offer comes to an end and Jio begins charging customers for services.

Besides, he said that the company will double its data capacity in the coming months.

He also announced the launch of the ‘Jio Prime’ offer, under which an existing user will be charged Rs 99 per year to avail some exclusive services. One has to pay Rs 303 per month in order to avail the ‘Happy New Year’ benefits that entail unlimited free data and voice calling.

According to the data provided by Ambani, Jio users consumed more than 100 crore gigabytes of data, more than 3.3 cr GB a day, making India the top country in terms of mobile data usage.
