New Delhi: Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) has announced that the company will recall 1,90,578 units to replace the Takata passenger front airbag inflators.
The recall would also include the previous generation of Accord, CR-V, Civic, City and Jazz that will join the precautionary global recall campaign, an official statement of Honda company said.
Honda has decided to complete the campaign free of cost at HCIL dealerships across India in a phased manner. While the bulk of the 1,90,578 vehicles being recalled is the City, this will be the company's seventh recall in the Indian market in last two years.
The company said in its statement that the replacement of inflators of CR-V and Civic will begin immediately whereas other effected models would begin replacement September 2016 onwards. The company said it will directly communicate with its customers.
A special microsite has been created on the Honda’s website which will enable its customers to check whether their cars are covered under this campaign by submitting their 17-character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
According to reports, 11 people have died worldwide due to explosion of Takata inflators and over 100 have been injured from the problem.
