New Delhi: The Delhi Traffic Police is planning to add some features to the Traffic Police Citizen Sentinel app that will ensure that people reporting an accident to not have to go through any harassment or discomfort.
The Traffic Police Citizen Sentinel app currently allows road users to click a photograph or a video of traffic rule violations and send to the traffic police control room, which then takes required legal action.
The same feature will be added following the Good Samaritan guidelines to ensure that people are not discomfited by the investigation process for having helped a victim to reach a hospital in the crucial first hour of an accident. The app will also help people to report about accidents.
Good Samaritan guidelines were notified by the Road Transport ministry on January 26. The guidelines say that witnesses will also have their secrecy respected if they want to.
The feature will be added after getting a nod from the legal department, officials said.
The Good Samaritan initiative also involves a standard operating procedure (SOP) on dealing with the people who rush road crash victims to hospitals. According to the procedure, no such person should be asked to reveal personal details, including full name, address and phone number unless the person himself volunteered to become an eyewitness of the accident that happened.
