Google Pixel Phones unveiled: Here is what you need to know

Tech giant Google on Tuesday hosted a grand media event to launch a series of products including its Pixel line of phones--the 5-inch Pixel and 5.5-inch Pixel XL. Notably, this it is for the first time that the company has brought a product that has hardware and software made by Google.

The two phones -- Pixel and Pixel XL -- will be put up for pre-order on October 13, 2016, and will be available for sale on Flipkart, Reliance Digital and Croma by the end of the month. The eagerly awaited smartphones will replace the existing Nexus line.

Here is what you need to know about Google Pixel and Pixel XL

1) Both the devices are powered with 4GB of RAM, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, a fingerprint sensor and a 12MP rear-facing an 8MP secondary camera.

2) While Pixel have a decently sized 2770mAh battery, which  can quick charge up to seven hours in 15 minutes, XL, naturally, features a much beefier 3,450mAh.The phones are rated at 13 and 14 hours of life on a charge, respectively.

3) The two phones -- Pixel and Pixel XL -- will be available in India, priced at Rs 57,000 onwards, in 32GB and 128GB versions, there is no microSD support.

4) The Pixel's dimensions are listed as 143.8 x 69.5 x 8.6mm with a weight of 143g, while the Pixel XL measures 154.7 x 75.7 x 8.6mm and weighs 168g.

5) Google Pixel has a 5-inch with 1080 pixel resolution (Full HD display) whereas Google Pixel XL has a 5.5-inch with a 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution (Quad HD display).

6) Both the devices will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. Both the devices will also come with unlimited storage for photos and videos.

7) The Pixel comes in three colors –Very Silver, Quite Black (both quite intriguing) along with a limited edition Really Blue (really) version, which is exclusive to the US.

8) While it was a hardware launch, it turned out the real focus was software.The company led the event with talk about its forthcoming Google Assistant AI, and as such, the Pixel will be the first handset to be packed with the friendly voice helper.

 

9) The phone will also ship with Google’s new messaging app Duo (and Allo) pre-installed. Both handsets will also be the first to be packed with 7.1 -the latest version of Android Nougat. Google Duo is a video calling app will be pre-installed.

10) The company has also built customer support directly into the Pixel — akin to the sort of help Amazon offers up on its Kindle Fire tablets.
