Raghuram Rajan, who has been a target of vociferous attack in the last few months, on Tuesday said that he has enjoyed every minute of his job as Reserve Bank of India governor.

“It has been a fantastic experience for me. I have enjoyed every minute of it. That is partly because every day when I sat and worked with my colleagues, and everyday when we went home, we had the satisfaction that we have managed to move the needle forward a little bit,” Rajan said while talking to reporters after his last monetary policy review.

“There are very few places where you feel that way. Which is why it was a fantastic job,” he added.

He added that he had received anonymous messages thanking him for the job. “Critics are there are all the time, but then there are also people who send me anonymous messages in planes thanking me for the work that I have done,” he said.

“The important thing is if you think you have made a useful contribution,” he added.

Rajan is set to retire on September 4 after three-year term ends. He has said that he plans to return to academia in the US.

In his bi-monthly monetary policy review that could also be the last by a Central Bank chief, Rajan decided not to change any key rates.

RBI Governor has left  Repo rate and CRR unchanged at 6.50 per cent  and 4 per cent respectively. The central bank has retained GDP growth projection at 7.6 per cent for 2016-17.
