Apple has entered into a partnership with e-commerce giant Flipkart to sell its iPhone 7 in India from October 7.
According to a report in online portal BGR.in, this is for the first time that Apple has partnered with a consumer online player to sell a new iPhone version.
Unlike previous years, Flipkart will source iPhone 7 directly from Apple this time instead of getting it from third-party sellers.
Infibeam, another Apple partner, will also receive the new iPhones directly. However, it is known more as a bulk seller and does not deal with consumers directly.
A major chunk of Flipkart’s revenues comes from sales of smartphones. In fact, some of smartphone brands like Motorola and LeEco, sell exclusively on Flipkart.
The tie-up with Apple is expected to boost the business prospects of Flipkart at a time when it is facing stiff competition from American rival Amazon.
