New Delhi: Yu Televentures, a firm started by Micromax in 2014, today launched Yunicorn. After the previous previous flagship smartphone failure the company is hoping a great deal from the new Yu Yunicorn. The flagship smartphone comes with a full-metal body with chamfered edges.
A TV ad was shown earlier this week, which showed a physical home button that was placed below the display, also with an embedded fingerprint scanner.
Price and availability: The Yunicorn is priced at Rs 12,999, and it will be exclusively available on Flipkart. The registrations for the flash sales on Flipkart start from 2:00PM today. The phone will initially be sold at a price of Rs 12,999 but after one month, the phone will be available for Rs 14,999. The company has also said that the smartphone will be available with offline stores later.
Looks and display: The Yunicorn focuses more on the beauty and comes with an aluminium body and curved glass screen and it looks rather good. Although looks a bit similar to the iPhone because of the physical home button. Also the home button houses a finger-print scanner inside it. The Yunicorn features a 5.5-inch screen with Full HD display for great viewing experience.

Yunicorn Steroids: The previous Yu smartphones used CyanogenOS but the Yunicorn doesn't. Yu is using its own software this time, which is currently based on Android Lollipop. The company is calling it Yunicorn Steroids. Also Yu says that the phone will be updated to Android Marshmallow in the coming days. The software in the Yunicorn will maintain the look and feel of the stock Android with Yu features which integrates services like booking cabs and the ordering food and more.
Udio, Mi Gallery and more: The software of the smartphone will also have a built-in digital wallet, called Udio. Micromax had collaborated with Visa and TranServ for the wallet. For healthcare, YU has introduced a video calling feature with doctors that will launch next month. Buyers will also get six months of Gaana subscription for free. The company has also integrated a smart gallery called Mi Gallery that will let you share a set of photos with your contacts and it will come on their home screen as dynamic wallpaper slideshows.
Specification: The smartphone is powered by a 1.8GHz MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor. It also comes with a 32GB internal storage that can be further expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card. Yu Yunicorn is equipped with a 13-megapixel auto-focus rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. It is powered with a 4,000mAh battery with fast charging support. In terms of connectivity the smartphone includes 4G LTE support, USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.
