The first phase of the Budget Session of Parliament will commence from January 29 and the Union Budget will be presented on February 1. After a recess, Parliament will meet again from March 5 and the sittings will conclude on April 6.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar informed that President Ramnath Kovind will address the joint sitting of the two Houses on January 29 and the Economic Survey will be tabled on the same day.
Kumar said that the decision to convene the Budget Session from January 29 was taken at the meet of Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs here.
Till 2016, the Budget was presented on the last working day of February by the Finance Minister. However, it was later decided to advance the date to February 1 so that it could be materialised before the commencement of new financial year from April 1.
The Budget is presented by means of the Finance Bill and the Appropriation Bill has to be passed by both the Houses before it can come into effect from April 1.
Meanwhile, the Winter Session of Parliament which began on December 15, ended today.
