Janata Dal (United) MP Devesh Chandra Thakur has ignited a controversy following his recent comments regarding the Muslim and Yadav communities. On Monday, Thakur stated that he would not consider requests from people belonging to these communities, citing their lack of support for him in the recently held Lok Sabha elections. Thakur emerged victorious in the Sitamarhi Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar, defeating his opponent from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Arjun Rai, by a margin of over 51,000 votes.
Thakur, reflecting on his extensive 22-year political career, claimed that he had consistently prioritised the interests of Yadavs and Muslims, providing significant assistance to these groups. Despite his efforts, he expressed disappointment that he received less than even two per cent of their votes in the Lok Sabha elections. Thakur had anticipated that at least 20 per cent of Yadavs and Muslims would support him this time around, but felt let down by the actual voting outcome.

What did Devesh Chandra Thakur say?
"Now I openly say in all the programmes that no Yadav or Muslim should come to me, I will not do any work for them. If they want to come, they can come to my house... They can come there and have tea and eat sweets. But if they talk about any kind of work then I will refuse with folded hands... I will not do their work," Thakur added. The JD(U) leader further said that Yadavs and Muslims did not vote for him because they see 'Narendra Modi's face in the arrow button.' "So I say this, why can't I see the lantern and Lalu ji's face in you?" Thakur asked.
RJD hits back at Thakur's remarks
Meanwhile, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) condemned Thakur for his statement and accused him of violating the Constitution and his oath of office. This gentleman is Nitish Kumar's favourite new MP. This MP, who belongs to the smallest population, is insulting 32 per cent of Bihar's population. If tomorrow other classes do not vote, will he have the same ill-will towards them too? He won the Legislative Council elections from the graduate constituency by getting a few thousand votes, so he still has the same pride," the post read. "This statement of his is a violation of the constitution and his oath to the post. Ruling by creating division in the society is the real character of the state's third largest party JDU and such people are the important members of Nitish Kumar's kitchen cabinet," it added.
