A constable was killed by a tractor illegally transporting sand in Bihar's Aurangabad district on Sunday. The incident occurred at Musepur Khaira village within the Daudnagar police station limits around 4 am, when the deceased, identified as Deepak Kumar (29), was on duty to check illegal sand mining.
The police said, Kumar who hails from Arrah in Bhojpur district, was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, Aurangabad SP Swapna Gautam Meshram speaking of the incident said, "The incident occurred when Kumar spotted a tractor loaded with illegally mined sand. Kumar instructed the driver to halt the vehicle, but the driver refused, mowed down the constable, and fled after abandoning the tractor at the scene."
Meshram further confirmed that the tractor has been confiscated and its owner apprehended. "The driver has been identified, and a manhunt has been launched to capture him," she added, stressing that all those involved will be brought to justice soon.
It is pertinent to note that this tragic event is reminiscent of a similar incident in November 2023, where a 28-year-old sub-inspector was killed and a home guard was seriously injured by a tractor transporting illegally mined sand in Jamui district.
