The Bihar Police on Thursday booked an individual claiming to be the in-charge of the RJD's IT cell for a social media post alleging that two "EVM hackers" were camping at the Raj Bhavan in Patna.
The Economic Offences Unit (EOU), which handles cyber crime investigations, issued a statement revealing that the complaint was lodged by R L Chongthu, the principal secretary to the Governor. The accused, identified by the username ‘Laluwadi_Nitesh’ on the social media platform X, described himself as the in-charge of the RJD's IT cell.
The FIR has been lodged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Representation of People Act, and the Information Technology (IT) Act. The controversial post was made a day prior to the complaint.
RJD sources have remained tight-lipped about the development. Meanwhile, the accused known with the username, ‘Laluwadi_Nitesh’, posted again on X, suggesting that the FIR against him further "gives rise to doubts".
In response to the incident, the EOU has initiated steps to ensure the removal of the objectionable post and has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to track down all those potentially involved in the matter.
