In a shocking incident, a final year undergraduate student was beaten to death by some unidentified persons on the law college campus of Patna University on Monday. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Harsh Raj, a student of Patna University's BN College. They said that the incident took place when Raj was coming out from his examination centre in the afternoon.
"Information was received that a student, who had gone to appear for his graduation examination on the law college campus under the jurisdiction of Sultanganj Police Station, was beaten up by some unknown people. He was injured. The police reached the spot and took him to the hospital, where he died during treatment", said the Patna police in a statement.
SP City, Patna East Bharat Soni says, "A special investigation team has been formed by Patna Police in this case. With the coordination of all our teams, we have arrested one accused so far and other accused have been identified. Our team is also trying to make arrests by going to other districts. Another team of ours is engaged in collecting evidence...The cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem."
Accused still at large
A case has been registered and the investigators are examining the CCTV footage to identify the accused, it said. The police have also launched a manhunt to nab the accused. Security personnel have been deployed on the campus, the officer added.
Angry crowd sets school ablaze in Patna
Earlier on May 16, an angry crowd set a school on fire in Bihar’s Patna after the body of a student was allegedly found on the premises. According to Patna Superintendent of Police, Chandra Prakash, the child was seen entering the school premises in the CCTV footage, however, he was not seen leaving the campus at any point. The police suspected the murder of the child as efforts were made to conceal the body, showing “criminal intent”.
