The Bihar Police on Sunday (June 2) informed that an arrest had been made in connection with the attack on the convoy of BJP leader and party candidate from Patliputra, Ram Kripal Yadav.

The Police said that the accused, identified as Bikash Yadav, has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the attack, while, the chase to catch the other eight suspects is currently in progress. They mentioned, a special team has been formed to arrest the remaining eight accused of the total nine mentioned in an FIR.

BJP candidate from Patliputra files FIR

Significantly, hours later the alleged attack, the BJP leader on June 1, filed an FIR. In the complaint he mentioned that his cavalcade had come under attack by a group of miscreants following the conclusion of the final phase of polling in the country.

He said, while returning from inspecting a polling booth in Tineri, a group of men targeted his vehicle. They pelted stones and fired shots, during which two party supporters were also injured.

On the incident, City SP (East) Bharat Soni said, "Information was received that the convoy of Ram Kripal Yadav was attacked by some unknown persons near Tineri village in Masaurhi, Patna around 7.30 pm on Saturday. Some party workers were also injured. An application has been submitted by Ram Kripal Yadav, and we are investigating the matter."

"In his complaint, he also claimed that gunshots were fired at his convoy. Further investigation is underway," Soni added.

BJP alleges RJD's involvement behind the attack

Meanwhile, Ram Kripal Yadav has alleged the involvement of the RJD in the 'conspiracy'. Significantly, in the Lok Sabha Polls 2024, Yadav has been pitted against RJD leader Misa Bharti in Patliputra.

Speaking of the incident, he said, "I never stay inside the security cover because my voters and party workers protect Ram Kripal Yadav. I have never indulged in the politics of violence. I could never imagine the way shots were fired at me and my convoy on Saturday. My workers were beaten, and they could have died."

"I met injured supporters who are undergoing treatment and enquired about their condition," he added.

Further, Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Samrat Choudhary accused the RJD of involvement in the attack. He said, "Out of frustration of defeat, RJD goons opened fire on Ram Kripal Yadav in Patliputra. We have formed an SIT to investigate this, and strict action will be taken against each of them."

"RJD wants to reinstate hooliganism in Bihar. Today, in a press conference held at the BJP state office, information was given about the cowardly act in Patliputra yesterday evening," he added.
