On the bail application of building co-owners, the court listed the case on August 9 and stated that it would hear the plea after the status report was filed.
The accused Anil Kumar Khanna has been absconding since 1998. He had scammed the Uttar Pradesh Finance Corporation of Rs 37 lakh back then. The CBI got a red corner notice issued against him and subsequently, he has been arrested.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi argued in the court that the excise policy has the signature of officials, ministers and even LG, along with Arvind Kejriwal, and merely signing as the basis of arrest is insufficient to hold him in custody.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Uttar Pradesh government is also probing the case. The SIT is led by the Additional Director General of Police (Agra Zone) Anupam Kulshrestha.
The CBI took over the case after the Education Ministry's directions. CBI is investigating the case in 6 FIRs, including one lodged by itself and five from different states, including Rajasthan, Bihar and Jharkhand.

Kejriwal is currently in judicial custody related to an Enforcement Directorate case. If the CBI's request is granted, his legal troubles could deepen, impacting his chances of release even if other bail pleas succeed.
