The Prime Minister’s remarks must be viewed from the anarchy that is prevailing in Sri Lanka and several state governments which are giving away freebies.

Uddhav Thackeray may have resigned as CM, but a bigger challenge awaits him. He has to keep the Shiv Sena party from disintegrating. Most of the party stalwarts from the districts have abandoned his ship, and his party has practically become a Mumbai outfit only.

The two killers have openly challenged the process of law, they planned this murder in advance and had already decided to make a video of their grotesque act.

It is yet to be seen what effect Uddhav’s appeal will have on the rebels, but already, there are efforts by the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs to seek a floor test in the state assembly. They are already exploring the possibility of forming a coalition government with the BJP.

Rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, along with 40 other dissident MLAs, left Surat in a chartered flight and landed in Guwahati on early Wednesday morning, in order to keep his flock together.

Agniveers will be inducted in two batches through 83 recruitment rallies between August and  November in different parts of India. Training of 25,000 Agniveers will begin in December, and for the remaining 15,000, training will begin in February, sources said.

In a fresh development, the Union Home Ministry announced a 10 per cent quota in vacancies in all para-military forces and Assam Rifles for demobilized Agniveers who complete four years of service in the army. 

Protests intensified in Bihar too, where youths set fire to at least 20 coaches of Vikramshila Express and Sampark Kranti Express at Lakhisarai and Samastipur stations, and blocked traffic on highways in Buxar, Bhgalpur and Samastipur.
