The Strawberry moon aka supermoon illuminated the sky on June 14. Also called Strawberry moon, Rosemoon and Honeymoon, was the first supermoon of this year. It was visible to the naked eye at 5.22 PM IST on June 14. This time the moon was at the closest point in its orbit around Earth. According to NASA, a supermoon occurs when a full or new moon coincides with its closest approach to the Earth. The closest point in the orbit is called "perigee," and when the full Moon appears at the perigee, it looks slightly brighter and bigger than a regular full moon.
The Moon’s orbit around Earth is not perfectly circular. This means the Moon’s distance from Earth varies as it goes around the planet. This was the second of the four consecutive supermoons.
