Kark Sankranti 2022: The movement of the Sun from Gemini to Cancer marks the celebration of an important Hindu festival known as Kark Sankranti. It is the commencement of Lord Surya's journey to the South. Kark Sankranti also marked the onset of Dakshinayana, which lasts for six months. Significance of Kark Sankranti
Kark Sankranti is one of the most special festivals of the Hindus as they worship Lord Vishnu during this time. Dakshinayana ends with Makar Sankranti after which Uttarayan starts. Kark Sankranti marks the onset of monsoon season which is of great importance to the farmers as they are able to yield good crops and earn more income. During Kark Sankranti, people organise special prayers for their ancestors and do donations.

It is also believed that Lord Vishnu, goes to sleep for four months during Kark Sankranti as Devshayani Ekadashi also coincides with Kark Sankranti. Therefore, it is said that no auspicious tasks should be done during this period of time. Worshipping Lord Vishnu is considered auspicious.
- Devotees should wake up in the morning and after completing all the household chores they should take a bath in holy water.
- They should then offer Arghya to Lord Sun and chant Surya Mantra.
- It is then followed by worshipping Lord Vishnu and chanting Vishnu Sahasranama Stotra.
- On this day people should make donations of food, clothes, and especially grains to the Brahmins.
- One should avoid organising any auspicious events like marriage or starting any important talks on this day.
