Chaturmas 2022: Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Ashan month is called Devshayani Ekadashi. From this day Lord Vishnu goes into Nidra yoga, which means he goes to sleep for four months, hence Chaturmas starts. During these months, all the auspicious work like marriage, shaving of heads, inaugurations, etc, are put on hold. It is believed that doing auspicious things during Chaturmas invites bad omen and unfavourable results. It also brings difficulties in a person’s life. This year Devshayani Ekadashi is going to fall on the 10th of July, and it will end on the 4th of November.

What not to do during Chaturmas:
- In these 4 months, all auspicious work like marriage ceremony, naming of the child, inaugurations, shaving heads, Janeu etc, is prohibited.
- People should not lie to anyone during Chaturmas.
- Milk, oil, brinjal, leafy vegetables, salty or spicy food, meat and alcohol, etc, should not be consumed during this fast.
- One should sleep on the ground instead of the bed, by doing this Lord Surya will be pleased.
- Poverty ends by worshipping Tulsi daily during these four months.
While auspicious work is forbidden during Chaturmas, religious works can continue. This time is considered best for worshipping, fasting etc. It is said that human beings can start any type of fast during this period and those who start fasting at this time get double the results.
