Yes, Raj Thackeray is right. These news channels show news without any logic or reason. Raj had only stated that he would throw Biharis out of Maharashtra. Where was the need to blow up this remark as news? It's only when he or his men would have thrown out a Bihari or two, bash up the Biharis, his men would have themselves called up the channels to send their cameras. So where was the urgency in blowing up this remark?...
Last time, when Raj's men bashed up some taximen in Mumbai, did not the MNS call in the news channels? Blowing up a news without prior invitation is not fair.
A few weeks ago, Anna Hazare's supporters had a scuffle with TV reporters at Jantar Mantar, with one of their leaders openly threatening editors sitting in news channel offices, but these channels never learn their lesson. These channels first made Anna a hero, created an aura about him saying "I am Anna, you are Anna", these very channels named Anna as today's Gandhi, and described Kejriwal as the brain behind Anna....but when Team Anna tried to score advantage out of this, these channels began showing large empty patches of Mumbai's MMRDA grounds, and not content with this, they began saying that crowds were now absent at Jantar Mantar. What was the logic behind the channels saying all these?
The channels reached their limit, when Baba Ramdev came to Jantar Mantar with his supporters, and they started screaming "Baba Aaye, Bheed Laye" (Baba Came With His Crowd). Well, we wanted crowds, and the crowds turned up.. what was the need of saying who brought the crowds and how?
Congress party's anger towards news channels also appears to be justified. These news channels scream day in and day out about Coalgate, though it was a minor case of irregularity. Top gun ministers like Chidambaram and Kapil Sibal had been constantly trying to convince the world that there was no scam as such, no revenue loss, all notional, but these channels have been regularly carrying on debates over the CAG report, over Sushma Swaraj's 'mota maal' remark, and had been telecasting Arun Jaitley's press conference live. What was the need of giving so much importance to an institution like CAG?
News channels don't have a drought of stories. The channels should have show how our under-19 team won the World Cup, should have showed how Dhoni's team beat New Zealand, should have showed how Salman's Ek Tha Tiger smashed box office records, should have showed Kareena Kapoor doing her Halkat Jawani number, should have showed Bachchan saheb's new edition of KBC, but these news channels only see Coalgate...and Coalgate.
Truly, these news channels don't understand what people have been saying about them. Ask Gopal Kanda, who will tell you how the media made a mountain out of a molehill named Geetika suicide case, and tarred him with brush even before his crime was proved. How the channels screamed when Kanda remained hidden for two to four days..If he was busy and could not meet the police, the heavens would not have fallen....After all Gopal Babu had been Home Minister, and the police knows better than the news channels what was to be done in a suicide case.
These channel guys forgot how a few months ago, after the arrest of Rajasthan politician Maderna in the Bhanwari Devi murder case, his wife said, these news channel people are fit to be vegetable sellers. Manu Sharma, who shot model Jessica Lal, had told the court that the news channels framed him up, and had there been no media, nothing would have happened to him. So many people are behind bars because of news channels, yet these people are unrelenting...
Supreme Court's retired judge Katju has said umpteen number of times that the news channels should behave otherwise they would be strung from the nearest post, but nobody is listening to him.. Katju saheb knows these channels are only in the race for TRPs. Katju saheb had questioned why these channels made a circus out of Rajesh Khanna's death, even if Kaka was a superstar in his heydays. These channels made a spectacle of Dev Anand's death..Katju saheb didn't like that too.
Katju saheb also asked what was the need for news channels to shout so much when Sachin Tendulkar scored his 100th ton. And, when Sachin was clean bowled thrice in succession, they made it into a news too..Katju Saheb makes so many sensational remarks, but none of the channels carry them. After all, he is the chairman of Press Council of India, and what stature do Rajesh Khanna, Dev Anand and Sachin Tendulkar have compared to a retired SC judge like him?
Justice Katju has also remarked that most of these TV news journalists are sem-literate, they are enemies of truth, and they don't know what to show and what not to show.
Now, the moot question is: when the government, the judge saheb, the criminals, the civil society leaders are unhappy with the news channels, then why is it that the hoi polloi, the common man, the aam aadmi watch these channels? When such bigwigs condemn these news channels, they why are the gullible poor people watching the channels? Definitely, the aam janta seems to be in league with these channels, otherwise these channels won't have the guts to walk with their heads high.
And the common people seem to be so strange. They don't see what these channels had been hiding...these channels did not name the community of those people who were thrown to their death from trains going to Assam from Bangalore, these channels did not make sensation out of the court verdict on Ayodhya dispute. When outdoor broadcasting vans of news channels were set on fire, they didn't scream. These news channels do not instigate people's sentiments, yet have high TRPs, they should be investigated, and the fact that the common people is in league with the channels, should be exposed.
If these channels are not stopped now, the channels and the common people will strengthen democracy. And then, don't say, you have not been forewarned.
