PERTH, Australia (AP) — South Africa captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl against Australia in the first limited-overs international on Sunday.
Both teams were packed with fast bowlers with Australia opting not to select a specialist spinner in the playing XI.
Du Plessis hoped that his fast bowlers could get early help on a "nice, flat wicket."
Australia's newly installed limited-overs captain Aaron Finch also wanted to have bowled first but expected the wicket not to change much through the match.
Australia has lost 16 of their past 18 ODI matches and will be looking to have a turnaround of results in limited-overs cricket in its first international match at home since the ball tampering incident during a test in Cape Town in March.
