WASHINGTON (AP) — Police say an employee was shot during an attempted robbery at a Whole Foods Market in Washington, D.C.
The Metropolitan Police Department says the shooting happened Sunday morning inside the supermarket along a busy shopping strip in northeast Washington.
Police say the male suspect approached a cashier, pulled out a gun and demanded money. They say the gunman fired off a shot during a struggle, striking the worker.
A police spokeswoman says the male employee was taken to the hospital in critical condition. No one else was injured.
Police say they are searching for the gunman, who fled the scene.
In a statement, Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods says their "thoughts and prayers" are with the wounded employee.
