METHUEN, Mass. (AP) — Federal prosecutors say two men are facing charges in connection with the seizure in Massachusetts of more than 70 pounds (32 kilograms) of fentanyl with an estimated street value of nearly $29 million.
Authorities say 33-year-old Angel Javier Morell-Oneill and 41-year-old Jose Rodriguez, both Dominican nationals, were arrested Monday.
Morell-Oneill was charged with drug possession with intent to distribute. Rodriguez was charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute.
Officers say they found two kilograms of fentanyl in Morell-Oneill's vehicle during a traffic stop and another 30 kilograms in his Methuen home.
Rodriguez was arrested after arriving at Morell-Oneill's home to deliver $20,000 authorities say was for the transportation costs of the drug.
Morell-Oneill's attorney declined comment when reached by phone. Rodriguez's public defender did not immediately return a voice message.
