NEW YORK (AP) — Powerful middleweight David Lemieux, who has 34 knockouts among his 40 wins, will take on Tureano Johnson in a 12-round fight on the card of Canelo Alvarez's super middleweight title bout against champion Rocky Fielding on Dec. 15.
The card at Madison Square Garden will also include the return of Sadam Ali, who will fight Mauricio Herrera in a 10-round middleweight fight.
Lemieux, 29, of Montreal, comes off a spectacular first-round knockout of Gary O'Sullivan.
"I'm extremely ready and looking forward to my next fight against Johnson," Lemieux said. "I didn't take a break since my last fight because I thought that I would be facing Canelo. ... I'm ready for an explosive performance and a great victory to end the year in a great way."
Johnson (20-2, 14 KOs), a native of the Bahamas, is 34. His two losses were to Curtis Stevens and Sergiy Derevyanchenko. A victory over former world champion Lemieux could put him in line for a title shot.
Alvarez and Fielding will meet for Fielding's WBA crown.
