BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Officials from Serbia and Kosovo say an application for membership by Kosovo to join Interpol has been rejected by the international police organization's General Assembly.
Kosovo's government confirmed it lost the vote at the meeting in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Tuesday.
Interpol did not immediately announce the results of the vote from the meeting, which includes delegates from most of the body's 192 member states.
Serbia's Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic tweeted "victory" from the general assembly.
Supported by its ally Russia, Serbia has been lobbying against Kosovo's entry into Interpol. Serbia does not recognize Kosovo's 2008 declaration of independence from Serbia.
