DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Aaron Finch posted a half-century on his test debut and shared an unbroken 137-run opening partnership with Usman Khawaja to help Australia reduce Pakistan's first-innings lead to 345 by lunch on day three of the series-opening match.
The Australians resumed Tuesday at 30 without loss in reply to Pakistan's first innings of 482, which included centuries from Mohammad Hageez and Haris Sohail.
Khawaja compiled his unbeaten 68 from 137 deliveries and hit six boundaries, including consecutive reverse sweeps against Yasir Shah to start the 43rd over — the 30th of the morning.
Finch, who played 93 one-day internationals for Australia before earning his first test cap, showed patience and restraint in accumulating 59 from 139 balls, including five boundaries and a six.
