SUNDAY, Sept. 30
TRI--IRONMAN PARENTS
LAWRENCE, Kan. — Two of the world's best endurance athletes, three-time Ironman world champion Mirinda Carfrae and her husband, Tim O'Donnell, sit back and relax on a soft white couch in an otherwise quiet house on a tree-lined street near the University of Kansas campus. In one corner sit their high-end time trial bikes, awaiting their next training session. Nearby, a box full of Hoka running shoes. And in the next room... a mountain of toys for baby Izzy, asleep upstairs. As the duo begins tapering down at their temporary training base for next month's world championships in Kona, Hawaii, Carfrae and O'Donnell are doing so with the added stress of first-time parents. By Dave Skretta. UPCOMING: 1200 words, photos by 3 a.m. Sunday.
