Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury today (June 21) cleared the air about his resignation as West Bengal state Congress president and said that it is just a rumour. I don't want to talk about it.
Earlier in the day, sources said Adhir Chowdhury resigned as the state Congress president in Bengal post-Lok Sabha Election Results 2024. As per sources, Chowdhury has accepted his defeat in the Lok Sabha polls and also accepted the party’s poor performance in the general elections in Bengal.
Sources added that Congress high command has not taken any decision yet regarding the resignation of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
Adhir Chowdhury defeated by former cricketer Yusuf Pathan
Earlier, when asked about his loss at the hands of political rookie Yusuf Pathan, the veteran Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury claimed that Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee was successful in her game plan to defeat him.
Chowdhury claimed that despite attempts by his opponents to alienate voters from him on religious lines, a large number of people across all faiths voted for him. He said that he could not, however, garner enough votes to win for the sixth consecutive term from Baharampur Lok Sabha constituency, which had sent him to the Lower House since 1999 as its representative.
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury lost to TMC candidate Yusuf Pathan in Baharampur constituency by around 85,022 votes, according to the Election Commission of India data. Adhir Chowdhury secured 4,39,494 votes while Yusuf Pathan secured 5,24,516 votes.
"Didi's game plan was successful," he lamented prior. Congratulating TMC's Yusuf Pathan for his victory, he also said, "I extend my best wishes to him."
