Mother's Day: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was gifted a portrait of his mother Late Heeraben Patel during his public rally in West Bengal’s Hooghly on Sunday (May 12). He said that the people in the ‘West’ (countries) are celebrating ‘Mother’s Day’ today but in India mother is worshipped throughout the year.

“Two people have brought portraits here and are showing it. You have brought it from so much love, that too of my mother. The people in 'West' celebrate this day as Mother's Day, but in India, we worship our Mother, Ma Durga, Ma Kaali and Bharat Mata, 365 days a year,” he said at a rally in West Bengal’s Hooghly.

In recent times, especially during the campaign trail for the Lok Sabha Elections, the Prime Minister has been gifted several portraits by the people who came to listen to him at the rally.

The Prime Minister, while accepting them, is often heard asking the person to mention their name and address behind the portrait so that he could write back to them personally in gratitude.
