Mithun Chakraborty, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and veteran actor was provided Y-plus security cover on Tuesday. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) upgraded his security after the actor-turned-politician received threats on social media.

According to the media reports, Chakraborty was threatened by a Pakistan gangster on social media. The Indian Express reported that Pakistani don Shahzad Bhatti, in a video message, threatened him with dire consequences if he did not apologise within 10-15 days for his alleged anti-Muslim comment.

Two FIRs lodged against Chakraborty for 'provocative' speech

A few days ago on November 6, two FIRs were lodged against actor-turned-politician for allegedly making provocative statements during a BJP event in Salt Lake area near Kolkata last month.

The complaints pertain to Chakraborty's speech on October 27 at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) in Salt Lake, during a BJP programme attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was in Kolkata to launch the party's West Bengal membership drive.

Chakraborty, who received India's highest film honour, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, earlier this year, had asserted on October 27 that the 'masnad' (throne) of West Bengal would belong to the BJP after the 2026 assembly elections, promising to do whatever it takes to achieve the goal.

Chakraborty campaigns for BJP in Jharkhand

Meanwhile, the actor held poll campaigns for his party in Jharkhand ahead of state assembly elections on Monday. Chakraborty led a massive roadshow in the East Singhbhum district. He campaigned for BJP candidate Meera Munda, the wife of former CM Arjun Munda, in the Potka constituency.

A large crowd, which included a significant number of women, gathered to have a glimpse of the Bollywood superstar as the roadshow covered the Gopalpur, Rakhamines and Jadugora areas.

Chakraborty then went to Dahigora Circus Maidan in Ghatsila where he briefly addressed a rally in favour of BJP candidate Babulal Soren.
