Kolkata rape-murder case: A Kolkata court on Thursday granted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) permission to conduct polygraph tests on the former principal of RG Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh and four other doctors in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee at the hospital. Earlier in the day, the CBI took Ghosh and four other doctors, who were on duty on the date of the incident, to a special court to seek its permission to conduct the lie detection test on them.
The central agency also alleged in the Supreme Court that there was an attempt by the local police to cover-up the rape and killing of the post-graduate medic as the crime scene was altered by the time the federal agency took over the probe.
CBI questions Sandip Ghosh
Former principal Ghosh, who resigned two days after the body of a postgraduate trainee was discovered in a seminar hall at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, has been repeatedly questioned by the CBI. On Tuesday (August 20), Ghosh was interrogated once again as part of the ongoing investigation into the rape and murder case of the trainee. During recent questioning, CBI officers posed several critical questions to Ghosh. They have sought details about his actions following the news of the doctor's death, the individuals he contacted thereafter, and the reason for the delay in allowing the victim's parents to view her body, which reportedly lasted nearly three hours. The investigation aims to clarify Ghosh's role and actions surrounding the tragic incident.
Polygraph test on main accused
The CBI had earlier obtained permission from a local court to conduct a polygraph test on Sanjay Roy, the civic volunteer who has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the case. The central agency received local court approval to conduct a polygraph test on the accused, days after performing a psychoanalysis test on him. Earlier, a team of psychological and behavioural analysts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi also conducted the necessary tests on Roy.
Kolkata doctor rape-murder case
It is pertinent here that a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty at the hospital on August 9. Later, the semi-naked body of the 32-year-old woman was found in the seminar hall of the government-run hospital in Kolkata. A civic volunteer was arrested in connection with the crime the next day. Following this, the Calcutta High Court ordered the transfer of the probe into the case from the Kolkata Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
