Queen Elizabeth II swaps out 3lb Imperial State Crown for lighter one
QUEEN WEARS LIGHTER CROWN
Queen Elizabeth II broke from tradition when she opened Parliament Monday (14 OCT. 2019).
The Queen chose to wear a lighter weight crown instead of her usual 3-lb Imperial State Crown.
The State Crown, which is usually worn to coronations and state openings of Parliament, was still present Monday, seated on a red velvet cushion to the right of the Queen's throne.
Atop her head, the Queen wore a much lighter George IV State Diadem. She's only previously worn it to a State Opening of Parliament before she was crowned in 1952.
