Uttar Pradesh: In a shocking and unfortunate incident, three farmers lost their lives allegedly after being run over by the vehicle of a Public Works Department official in Bilhaur town of Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur district. According to police, driver Ajeet Kumar Pandey was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident that occurred on Monday, which belongs to a junior engineer of the PWD Ayodhya.
Driver was in an inebriated state
SHO (Bilhaur) Surendra Singh said the preliminary investigation revealed that the driver Pandey was in an inebriated state while driving the car.
"Pandey was on his way to Ayodhya after dropping the junior engineer’s family in Sikandara in Kanpur Dehat when he lost control of the vehicle on the Lucknow-Etawah road and ran over Surendra Singh (62), Ahibaran Singh (63) and Ghaseete Yadav (65)," police said.
All elderly farmers died on spot
All three elderly farmers, residents of Billhaur died on the spot. “We suspect that Pandey was driving the vehicle negligently when the fatal accident took place, " the SHO said.
Pandey, the driver fled from the spot after the incident, leaving the damaged SUV behind. SHO added that the accused was later arrested and an FIR has also been registered at the Bilhaur police station.
