Residents of a group housing society in Noida were concerned after a lift malfunctioned with three people inside, sparking protests and raising safety alarms. The malfunction occurred on Sunday evening at Paras Tierea Society in Sector 137, where a similar accident claimed the life of an elderly woman last year. According to police, the lift descended from the eighth floor when it experienced jerks and unexpectedly ascended to the top floor.
Police response
Additional DCP (Central Noida) Hirdesh Katheriya stated that all three occupants, including a society resident and two delivery boys, escaped unharmed. Police officials promptly responded to the situation and reassured residents.
Residents' reaction
Scores of Paras Tieria residents protested the incident, expressing concerns over the safety of the lift system. This incident reignited memories of a fatal accident in August 2023, where a resident lost her life due to a lift cable snap.
Previous incident
In August 2023, Susheela Devi, 72, tragically passed away when the lift cable snapped, causing a free fall within the building. The incident raised questions about the lift's maintenance and safety protocols.
