A violent clash between two student groups at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) resulted in gunfire within the university's V.M. Hall hostel late last night. The incident created panic on the campus, and during the exchange of gunfire, three individuals, including a homeopathic doctor who happened to be present in the hostel, sustained gunshot wounds, some of them severe.
Students rushed the injured to the AMU's JN Medical College for immediate medical attention. Upon receiving reports of the gunfire within the campus, AMU's Proctor, Prof. Wasim Ahmad, along with the university's security team and local police, arrived at the scene promptly.
The police have initiated an investigation into the matter and are actively working to identify and apprehend the students responsible for the gunfire.
The incident unfolded at around 11 PM when several students were sitting outside the hostel premises. During this time, a group of students from one faction arrived and initiated gunfire, causing chaos and panic. Following the gunfire, the alleged perpetrators fled the scene. Subsequently, the students from the other faction, who received the distress call, arrived at S.S. North Hall for a discussion. However, tensions escalated, resulting in another round of gunfire, during which three individuals sustained injuries. They have been admitted to the medical college for treatment. The police are currently investigating the reasons behind this violent confrontation.
