Uttar Pradesh: Woman alleges rape, attempt to convert religion by live-in partner; accused arrested
The accused was identified as Khalid Chaudhary, with whom the victim who was a Dalit woman moved in September 2022, also forced her to undergo an abortion by him.
UP Police: A man was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad for allegedly raping and forcing his live-in partner to convert to Islam, police said on Sunday (July 23).
The accused was identified as Khalid Chaudhary, with whom the victim who was a Dalit woman moved in September 2022, also forced her to undergo an abortion by him, they added.
Khalid was arrested on Saturday night after which he confessed to his crime during police interrogation.
Victim's allegations in complaint
According to the victim’s complaint, she came in contact with Khalid, who initially introduced himself as Deepak while also posing as a journalist, on social media three years ago and started living with him since September last year.
Khalid forced her to change her religion and convert to Islam, eat beef, and terminate her pregnancy after nearly a month, she alleged in the complaint.
She also alleged that she was raped and thrashed by her live-in partner.
“After receiving the complaint of the woman, an FIR has been lodged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and the Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act at Vijay Nagar police station," Deputy Commissioner of Police, City, Nipun Agarwal had said on July 21.
