Uttar Pradesh: At least 9 people were killed and one child reported injured in an road accident as a speeding tanker crashed into an auto in Fatehpur.
Uttar Pradesh: In an unfortunate incident, at least 9 people lost their lives as a speeding tanker rammed into an auto in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur. As per reports, one child has been reported injured in the accident. The police on Tuesday informed that the tempo in which the nine deceased were travelling was hit by a speeding milk tanker.
The incident occurred in the afternoon when the tempo which was carrying 11 people from Ghatampur in Kanpur, was headed towards Jehanabad.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Kumar Singh said "11 passengers were travelling in the tempo and nine of them were killed in the accident. Two of them were injured and rushed to the hospital, where their condition was stated to be stable."
Five deceased belonged to a family
He further informed that out of nine, five members belonged to a family, identified as -- Anil (40) of Bengali Colony in Etawah district, his wife Yashoda (30), sons Ashafi Lal (5) and Luv (1), and daughter Pallavi (5) -- were among those killed.
"Efforts are being made to ascertain the identity of the remaining deceased. However, the tanker driver managed to flee from the spot," the SP said.
PM Modi expressed grief
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident. "The road accident which took place in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur is very sad. My deepest condolences to those who have lost their family members. I also wish the injured a speedy recovery. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is providing all help to the victims," he tweeted in Hindi.
In a tweet in Hindi, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "The loss of lives in a road accident in Fatehpur district is extremely sad. My condolences are with the bereaved families. May Lord Ram give the departed souls a place at his feet and ensure a speedy recovery for the injured."
The district administration has been instructed to ensure proper treatment of the injured, the chief minister said.
