In a shocking incident that occurred in Uttar Pradesh, an elderly woman lived with the dead body of her grandson for 10 days in her home. The incident happened in Barabanki and was discovered when locals became suspicious of the body's stench. After neighbors noticed the foul smell and called for help, the police were informed.
The boy's decomposing body, which the 65-year-old was cleaning at the time, was discovered by the police when they arrived at the residence. The body was found and taken for a post-mortem by the police.
Locals in the area reported a strong, odourless stench on Monday morning, which led to the investigation of the incident. They informed the authorities that the smell had been present for a few days.
Priyanshu, the grandson, had lost both of his parents and was living with his grandmother. The woman was said to be mentally unfit by the locals, and when the police arrived at the scene, they were as well. She had not only been washing his body but also changing his clothes. The woman responded that he passed away around ten days ago when asked about his passing.
Once the medical records are made public, it will be possible to determine the reason he died. An in-depth investigation is underway.
Earlier, an elderly woman was murdered by her neighbour who buried the body in the courtyard at his house in Lucknow. The woman's family members had lodged a missing report with the police on Monday (June 12).
DCP North Zone, Qasim Abidi said the family members of the victim suspected their neighbour Mohammed Qasim who was interrogated by the police over the woman's disappearance. Police sources said the suspect initially cooked up stories but later confessed that he had killed the woman.
"The police found footage in which the woman was seen going towards the house of the suspect," said the DCP.
The body was exhumed from the house of the suspect and the autopsy revealed that the woman had a head injury. The suspect used to address the deceased as 'sister'. The alleged accused has been arrested but the motive behind the crime is unknown.
