A couple was killed after allegedly being attacked with iron rods and sticks by neighbours in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district on Friday evening, the police said.

The couple was identified as Abbas and Kamrul Nisha who were allegedly murdered in the village Rajeypur under the Hargaon PS limits, according to the police.

They died on the spot after which the accused persons fled from the spot.

Superintendent of Police Chakresh Mishra reached the spot after the incident and the police were deployed in the area.

The SP said that Abbas’ son had eloped with a girl from the neighbouring household a few years ago and was later arrested. The dispute started again after he was released from jail recently. Some members of neighbourhood planned an attack on the couple.

“We received info that Abbas and his wife Kamrul Nisha were allegedly murdered by their neighbours in the village Rajeypur under the Hargaon PS limits. The couple died on the spot in the attack and all the accused fled from the spot...A few years back Abbas's son eloped with a girl from the neighbouring household. A case was registered in this and Abbas's son was sent to jail. When Abbas's son was released from jail a few days back, there was again a dispute between the families…,” Mishra said.

A case has been registered under the relevant sections and an investigation into the matter has been initiated.

“Search for the absconding accused is on. Police have been deployed in the village,” the SP said.
