UP Bypoll Results 2024 Live: Counting for nine assembly seats begins, BJP leads in 7 seats in early trends

On counting for UP by-elections, Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai said, "It was already decided in Uttar Pradesh that the government is fighting the elections with the help of its machinery. The result of that has come out... All the machinery of the government, from police administration was deployed. Voters were intimidated and threatened. This is a complete murder of democracy."  

On counting for Uttar Pradesh by-election, Samajwadi Party candidate from Karhal Assembly seat, Tej Pratap Singh Yadav said, "The way the administration abused power and constantly harassed our people, our activists and the people here contested the elections very strongly and we hope that we will win the elections with a good margin. The whole country knows that all the videos of the election day went viral on social media and the way the police contested the elections in Mirapur in Kundarki on behalf of the BJP, everyone has seen that and everyone knows it. I hope that we will win with a good number of votes..."

On UP Assembly by-elections, UP Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak said, "Of the 9 seats in Uttar Pradesh, BJP will win 8. We have posed a tough competition to Samajwadi Party. Since there are more voters from their community, they are in a better position there..."

As counting of votes in Meerapur bypoll is underway in Muzaffarnagar,  SSP Abhishek Singh said, "Three-tier security arrangements have been made for counting of votes. 4 companies of PAC, one platoon of CRPF and 1000 Constabulary,  12 COs, and 4 Additional SPs are deployed here...Those with valid IDs are being allowed inside the counting centre after checking..."

SP candidate Naseem Solanki got 4684 votes in the first round of EVM. Whereas BJP candidate Suresh Awasthi got 2333 votes

In Kanpur's Sisamau seat, SP candidate Naseem is ahead in postal ballots counting

In Ghaziabad, BJP's Sanjeev Sharma is ahead in counting of postal ballots

BJP leading in seven seats including in - Katehari, Ghaziabad, Majhawan, Raver- out of nine in early trends

Byelections were held for nine assembly seats, a direct faceoff between BJP and Samajwadi Party. Counting begins

Counting to begin shortly. The results of the nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh are expected to come out today.

Ninety candidates are in the fray for the bypolls. Ghaziabad has the most candidates in the fray with 14, followed by Khair and Sisamau with five each. Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has fielded candidates from Ghaziabad, Kundarki and Mirapur while Chandrashekhar Azad-led Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) is contesting on all seats except Sisamau.

While eight seats fell vacant following the incumbent MLAs' election to the Lok Sabha, polling in Sisamau is being conducted due to Samajwadi Party lawmaker Irfan Solanki's disqualification from the assembly after his conviction in a criminal case. The Congress is not contesting these bypolls and has lent support to the Samajwadi Party, its INDIA bloc ally. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is contesting on all nine seats solo.

About 49.3 per cent of voters cast their votes in bypolls to nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh
