Folk singer from Uttar Pradesh, Neha Singh Rathore, has been served with police notice over her song on deaths during an eviction drive. The satirical song supposedly taunted the Yogi Adityanath government for its eviction drive in Kanpur, which led to the deaths of a mother and a daughter.

The police in its notice have alleged that the satire has 'created a situation of disharmony and tension' in society. Rathore has been given three days to respond.

Pramila Dixit (45), and her daughter Neha (20), died in their hut that was set on fire, allegedly by policemen, during an anti-encroachment drive in Kanpur Dehat. The district police had initially claimed that the women set themselves on fire. But in a swift U-turn, state police filed a murder case against 13 people, including the sub divisional magistrate, the in-charge of the local police station and the bulldozer operator. They have also been charged with attempted murder and voluntarily causing hurt.

The singer has earlier too criticised the ruling government over various issues, including Yogi government's corona management.

The notice soon initiated a political slugfest and reactions from various poets. While, Akhilesh Yadav took a swipe in a poetic way, Kumar Vishwas came in full support of the singer.
